Studies on sorghum grain losses due to earhead caterpillar, Heliothis armigera (Hubner)

Indian Journal of Entomology 56(3): 220-227

A known number of 1st-instar larvae of Heliothis armigera from 1 to 5 per earhead were released both on open and closed earhead conditions in Maharashtra, India, to study their effect on grain damage and yield. The treatment with 1 larva per earhead gave 8.97% grain damage with 62.97 g yield per earhead. The percentages of grain damage with grain yield per earhead were 15.21 (59.68), 20.27 (55.10), 22.74 (52.48) and 25.49 (50.04) in 2, 3, 4 and 5 larvae per earhead, resp.
