Survival of S. typhimurium in the soil in the presence of bacteriophages

The survival of a S. typhimurium strain (STM 36) was tested after inoculation without or together with the bacteriophage 1 of the S. typhimurium phage typing scheme, into sterile soils (clay loam, clay, sandy loam, clay loam soils) at 4, 20 and 37 degrees C. Salmonella typhimurium inoculum survived for 18 to 30 days with neither temperature nor soil type affecting the duration of its survival.
