Survival skills of Tonga Women in Zimbabwe

A description is presented of the skills adopted and innovated by the Tonga women in Zimbabwe following their forced removal from the Zambezi river area in 1957 to make way for the Kariba Lake Dam and hydroelectric scheme. Land where the Tonga resettled is considered to be the poorest in Zimbabwe in terms of soil conditions and rainfall, there are no lakes for fishing and hunting is prohibited.
