Susceptibility of Mentha species to infestation with insects, mites and their predictions

A field study in 1993-94 at Alexandria, Egypt, indicated that Mentha avividis (mint) and M. piperita (peppermint) were attacked by Bemisia tabaci, jassids Spodoptera littoralis, Aphis gossypii, snails, and mites Brevipalpus obovatus and Tetranychus urtica. They also harboured the predatory mites Euseius scutalis and Typhlodromus sp. B. tabaci and cicadellids were the most dominant pests on each of the two species. Mint was more susceptible to infestation by B. tabaci than peppermint.
