Susceptibility of coagulase positive Staphylococcus isolated from bovine subclinical mastitis to antibacterial agents

48 healthy cows from 2 agricultural areas in the region of Jaboticabal, Sao Paulo, Brazil, were tested by the California Mastitis Test in 1995. 35 milk samples were collected from 17 (35.4%) cows which were positive to this test. Coagulase positive Staphylococcus were isolated from 10 (11.6%) of these samples. The drugs to which the isolates were most and least susceptible were nitrofurantoin (68.2% of isolates) and penicillin (0%), respectively.
