Susceptibility of lines and F1 hybrids of rye to snow mould

The response of 22 inbred lines, 30 hybrids (22 from single and 8 from 3-way crosses) and 3 varietal populations under artificial infection with Microdochium nivale (Monographella nivalis) in the laboratory and under artificial and natural infection in the field was tested. The results of all 3 tests were significantly correlated. The lines showed the highest plant loss rating over the 3 years of tests, and the range of variation was greatest within lines.
