Susceptibility of permafrost soils to deep thaw after forest fires in interior Alaska, U.S.A., and some ecologic implications

Susceptibility of permafrost soils to deep thaw after forest fires in interior Alaska, U.S.A., and some ecologic implications

Arctic and Alpine Research 28(2): 217-227

Some soils with permafrost thawed deeply and become drier after forest fires, while others changed little. Soils with permafrost on the coldest and wettest landscape positions (concave to plane, lower slope positions, and north-facing midslopes) usually failed to thaw deeply after fires in the study area.
