Susceptibility to fireblight of different apple and pear cultivars

Susceptibility to fireblight of different apple and pear cultivars

Obst und Weinbau 131(26): 684-687

In 1995, fireblight, caused by Erwinia amylovora, caused severe blossom infections in apples and pears in Switzerland. Factors predisposing infection are discussed, and a table is given of the relative susceptibility to the disease of 101 apple and 43 pear cultivars. In general, cultivars resistant to scab (Venturia inaequalis and V. pirina) were found also to be resistant to fireblight.
