Suspected parelaphostrongylosis in five llamas

Suspected parelaphostrongylosis in five llamas

Progress in Veterinary Neurology 7(4): 124-129

Parelaphostrongylosis was tentatively diagnosed in 5 llamas from 1987 to 1995. All llamas had a sudden onset of weakness or ataxia and at least one of the following signs of spinal cord dysfunction including exaggerated patellar reflexes, conscious proprioceptive deficits and increased extensor tone. The concentration of protein and eosinophils was increased in cerebrospinal fluid aspirated from the lumbosacral space in 3 llamas.
