Sustainability and urban food supply in Africa

Sustainability and urban food supply in Africa

Sustainable Development Bradford 3(2): 79-88

The paper reviews the main problems associated with providing food for the growing urban populations of the developing world. Focus is placed on the supply of agricultural products to the urban markets, and this and the related infrastructure are placed in an historical context. Agenda 21, the main action document to have resulted from the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), has been the focus of much attention in sustainable development efforts.
