Sustainability of smallholder food production systems in Southern Africa: the case of Zimbabwe

The paper examines the agricultural sector and smallholder farming in post-independent Zimbabwe. The main area discussed is how the social well-being of the rural population can be improved given that the poor lack economic alternatives to the current excessive exploitation of their natural resource base.
