Sustainable aquaculture for small scale farmers: need for a balanced model

Sustainable aquaculture for small scale farmers: need for a balanced model

Outlook on Agriculture 25(1): 19-26

The paper outlines Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) experience in promoting sustainable aquaculture systems for small scale farmers, with emphasis on experience in Thailand. Research clearly demonstrated the limited value of buffalo manure as a major pond fertilizer. In 1988, AIT began an Aquaculture Outreach Project in north east Thailand with a baseline survey in which one objective was to identify other possible nutritional inputs.
