Sustainable maize production - the effects of compost on soil nitrogen content and crop and weed biomass

A field experiment was conducted in 1993 at Wye College Farm, UK, to compare fresh dairy manure (30 t/ha), dairy manure compost (60 t/ha) and 100 kg N/ha as ammonium nitrate (nitram) incorporated into the soil before drilling of maize LG2080 seeds. Additionally, 30 t compost or 15 t manure + 50 kg N/ha as nitram before drilling, and 60 t/ha compost applied as a mulch after drilling, were compared.
