Sustainable nutrient management in animal husbandry

Sustainable nutrient management in animal husbandry

Soil management in sustainable agriculture Proceedings Third International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture, Wye College, University of London, UK, 31 August to 4 September 1993: 61-70

Sustainable husbandry systems for cattle and sheep can be achieved by Sustainable Nutrient Management (SNM). This implies the tuning of inputs and outputs of nutrients to achieve optimum ranges of agronomically desirable and ecologically acceptable reserves of single nutrients in the soil. SNM is elaborated into 2 scenarios. In both, the output of milk and meat is compensated for by a phosphorus ('P-equivalent') input from concentrates.
