Sustaining a threatened landscape: farmland ponds in Cheshire

Journal of Environmental Planning and Management 38(4): 561-568

The ponds of Cheshire, formerly commonplace, are vanishing from the landscape. Representing once dominant farming practices, they now have high ecological value and form a visual and social amenity. Proposals to develop community-based schemes for sustaining the remaining pond resource are an attempt to integrate the diverse meanings and uses of this landscape feature and to sustain the resource.
