Sustaining local cultural identity: social unrest and tourism in Corsica

Sustaining local cultural identity: social unrest and tourism in Corsica

Sustainable tourism? European experiences: 176-188

This chapter examines the socioeconomic changes taking place in Corsica today and suggests that they must be understood within the context of the island's resistance to French rule. They must also be understood within the context of macrosocial development, paying particular attention to the local situation, the interaction of the different policies adopted by the islanders or groups of islanders, the confrontations, conflicts, disorders and inequalities.
