Sweden defends functional foods

Sweden defends functional foods

Revue Laitiere Francaise ( 565): 13-15

The use of probiotic products is widespread in Scandinavian countries, but it is in Sweden that these products are the most widespread. The first such product to enter the Swedish market was Arla's Dophilus (containing Lactobacillus acidophilus), and a number of other products have since been launched. While initially these products did not present any problem for regulatory authorities, manufacturers are now seeking the right to promote them on the basis of their benefits to human health.
