Sweet cherry breeding at the research station in Bordeaux

Sweet cherry breeding at the research station in Bordeaux

Acta Horticulturae ( 410): 35-36

A hybridization programme was initiated by the Fruit Research Station of INRA, Bordeaux in 1978 using 15 Prunus avium varieties. So far more than 100 first selections have been evaluated, 10 of which might be suitable for mechanical harvesting and approximately 15 for industrial processing. The hybrid varieties Fercer Arcina (large fruits) and Ferbolus Verdel (late maturity) have been distributed to growers. Fernola and Fernier will be available to growers in the near future.
