Sweet potato whitefly and tomato irregular ripening: a research review

Sweet potato whitefly and tomato irregular ripening: a research review

Proceedings of the Interamerican Society for Tropical Horticulture 38: 240-243

Bemisia tabaci (SPWF) feeding has been associated with tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) irregular ripening (IR) fruit symptoms. A review is presented to report investigations on SPWF and tomato IR. The influence of the insecticide endosulfan and aluminium painted polyethylene was evaluated for control of SPWF adults and the incidence of tomato 'Sunny' IR under field conditions in Florida. Endosulfan sprays reduced SPWF adult populations and reduced the percentage of fruit with IR symptoms.
