The accumulation of arsenic, bromine and iodine in needles of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) at sites with low pollution

The accumulation of arsenic, bromine and iodine in needles of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) at sites with low pollution

Water, Air, and Soil Pollution 91(3/4): 417-430

The concentrations of As, Br and I were measured in needles, in the material deposited on the needle surface of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and in the soil. Results from 8 unpolluted and 1 polluted continental sites and from 1 maritime site are reported. The mass of all 3 elements on the needle surface was similar to that in the needles. Needle concentrations increase linearly with the needle age class, but net accumulation during the first year was larger than during later years.
