, : The composition and seasonal changes in the diet of bream (Abramis brama) in the relation to the abundance and biomass of its food items in Lake Vortsjarv. Eesti Teaduste Akadeemia Toimetised, Bioloogia 44(1/2): 11-22

The stomach contents of 56 bream (15-51 cm long), collected during May to August, 1993, from the shallow eutrophic Lake Vortsjarv, were analysed. Chironomid larvae and pupae made up over 95% of the weight of food, while Chironomus plumosus and Einfeldia carbonaria occurred most frequently. The most important food species was C. plumosus (about 97% of chironomid biomass in the gut contents). Smaller bream consumed mainly zooplankton.
