In field trials in 1991-95, Virginia tobacco was given farmyard manure and NPK before sowing and 10 or 20 kg N as ammonium nitrate, 10 kg N as urea, 1, 2 or 10 kg Cu and 0.25, 0.5 or 1.0 kg Mo/ha, separately or in various combinations, at transplanting. Yield and quality were poor due to adverse weather conditions. Data are given on leaf trace element contents in relation to quality class, harvest and fertilizer treatments. The contents of most heavy metals increased as leaf quality decreased.
