The effect of sub-optimal O2 on seedling emergence of soybean seeds of different size

A commercially produced soyabean Shih-shih seed lot was selected to study the influence of sub-optimal O2 concentration and pre-emergence flooding on emergence strength and seedling emergence percentage. Seeds were separated into large- and small-size classes. Seedling emergence strength was measured using a gauge transducer under various O2 concentrations. Gas mixtures prepared using high pressure O2 and N2 in the laboratory varied in O2 concentrations (2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 kPa).
