The effectiveness of bifidokefir, a kefir containing physiologically active cells of Bifidobacterium bifidum strain 1, as a therapeutic food for children with severe intestinal infections was investigated. Results of clinical trials involving 76 children (3-12 years old) are reported. With the use of bifidokefir, within 5-7 days levels of intestinal bifidobacteria returned to normal levels in 73.4% of patients, and levels of intestinal lactobacilli normalized in 82% of patients.
