ISSN/ISBN: 0567-7572

In Turkey, P. mahaleb is the most commonly used rootstock for sweet cherry. This study was carried out on some Mahaleb types possessing different degrees of vigour (old and young trees) to determine the relationship between vigour and the width and length of the phloem sieve tube elements. The width of sieve tubes ranged from 8.29 +or- 0.17 micro m for Mahaleb type Kem.4 to 13.96 +or- 0.20 micro m for Mahaleb seedling Af.5.
