The sustainability of wood production from plantations: evidence over three successive rotations in the Usutu Forest, Swaziland

The sustainability of wood production from plantations: evidence over three successive rotations in the Usutu Forest, Swaziland

Commonwealth Forestry Review 75(3): 234-239

Long-term assessment of productivity over three 15-17 yr rotations of Pinus patula planted at 2.7-3 m spacing and pruned at 5 yr old for access, showed no evidence of yield decline as a general consequence of these plantation forestry practices. Over most of the Usutu forest productivity of each successive crop has been equal to or better than its predecessor.
