Urinary protein/creatinine ratio in the evaluation of renal failure in canine leishmaniasis
Urine and blood samples from 13 dogs with confirmed leishmaniasis and 9 healthy, seronegative Beagles were examined using a range of biochemical tests. There was a high correlation between both total urinary protein and serum albumin concentration and the urinary protein:creatinine (UP/C) ratio, but not between UP/C ratio and total serum protein. A biochemical plasma renal profile was less sensitive in both groups than the UP/C ratio which was higher in the infected group than in controls.
