Genetically engineered herbicide-resistant sugarbeet varieties will be grown in Germany only after their registration by the national variety registration authority (Bundessortenamt). For this, varieties must demonstrate their value for cultivation and use (landeskultureller Wert), i.e. a clear improvement of the entire yield parameters of the crop or other aspects of agronomy.
