A striated muscle in pars prostatica of canine urethra

The striated muscle tissue from the prostatic part of urethra was examined in 7 mixed breed dogs. The muscle was located on the urethral cavernous body. A well-defined layer of longitudinal and oblique collagen fibres was observed in the muscle and the cavernous sinuses. The light and electron microscopy showed that the urethral muscle was composed of 2 types of fibres. White fibres, rich in myofibrils and mitochondria, were predominant.
