A study of the optimum amount of vitamin A added to diets for layer chickens

A study of the optimum amount of vitamin A added to diets for layer chickens

Jiangsu Agricultural Sciences 2: 61

In a trial with laying chickens, diets were supplemented with retinol 8000, 12 000 or 16 000 IU/kg. Before feeding retinol, protein production rates were 70.28-71.93% and during the supplementation period they were 86.92% with 8000 IU, 92.93% with 12 000 IU and 91.22% with 16 000 IU. Food intake was increased by the treatments and the food:protein ratio was 2.75:1 for 8000 IU, 2.64:1 for 12 000 IU and 2.66:1 for 16 000 IU. Death rates decreased as the level of retinol increased.
