A study on branching and cone-setting of grafted plants in a clonal seed orchard of Masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.)

Seed orchards play a very important role in forest genetic improvement, and in China more than 1000 ha of clonal seed orchards of Masson pine have been established. Low and unstable seed yield is the main problem in the seed orchards. This is due to insufficient study of plant characteristics in the seed orchards, and the few systematic studies which have been done on orchard management.
