Accessory pioneer tree species of the hilly region of southern Lower Saxony

AFZ/Der Wald, Allgemeine Forst Zeitschrift fur Waldwirtschaft und Umweltvorsorge 53(18): 959-961
Accessory pioneer tree species of the hilly region of southern Lower Saxony
In the uplands of southern Lower Saxony in Germany, accessory tree species including birch aspen willow and rowan constitute a 10-30% admixture in almost all types of forest development with beech or Norway spruce as the main species. Under the LOWE (Long-term Ecological Forest Development) forest programme, there are provisions to integrate these species increasingly into the silvicultural planning process.
