A physicochemical mathematical model was used to investigate the characteristics of acidification of rainwater by washout of gaseous pollutants. The model deals with the below-cloud scavenging of the pollutant gases, and considers the drop-phase chemistry and the mass transfer at the interface between the drop and the atmosphere.
