The eastern and western regions of China differ markedly in their geographical and climatic characteristics. These differences in turn have an effect on the rural development of the regions with a need for development in different directions to allow for the differences between the regions and their agriculture. Compared with the eastern region, the rural economic development of the central and western parts of the country is slower and the potential for development is less.
