Actinomycotic tuboovarian abscess: use of computed tomography scanning

A case is reported in a 41-year-old woman from France with an intrauterine device fitted for 3 years, who presented with pelvic pain. Examination revealed 2 bilateral pelvic masses. Transvaginal sonography showed a right adnexal heterogeneous mass containing multiple ill-defined liquid areas. Computed tomography of the pelvis demonstrated 2 enlarged heterogeneous adnexal masses with scattered hypodense areas. A laparotomy was performed and 2 tuboovarian abscesses were removed.
