Antibacterial activity of propolis and honey against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli

Antibacterial activity of propolis and honey against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli

Indian Bee Journal 58(3): 128-130

Ethanolic extract of propolis completely inactivated S. aureus and E. coli, at 0.1% and 1.0% concentrations, respectively. With pure propolis extract (20 micro l), the zone of inhibition on agar plates was 8.1 +or- 1.32 and 7.12 +or- 1.33 mm diameter against S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. Honey diluted with distilled water was not effective against these bacteria.
