Breeding and evaluation for improved rice cultivars - the Arkansas rice breeding and development program

Research Series Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station ( 460): 6-11

The on-going rice breeding programme in Arkansas, USA, is described. Significant developments include the release of Drew, a blast resistant, high-yielding, long-grain rice cultivar, which originated from a Newbonnet/Katy cross made in Stuttgart, Arkansas in 1985. Several promising lines have been selected and are currently under trial.
