Breeding and selection of Mingguang 87s, a photosensitive genic male sterile line of indica rice

An attempt was made to transfer the genes for photosensitive genetic male sterility directly or indirectly from japonica rice Nongken 58s to indica rice. A photosensitive genetically male sterile line of indica rice, Mingguang 87s, was obtained by crossing M901s with Jian 29s. It became completely male sterile under long-day conditions, and was restored to fertility under short-day conditions. The critical temperature for fertility transformation was lower than 23.5 degrees C.
