Breeding of maize tropical landraces by recurrent selection

In Cotaxtla, during 1982-88, 250 progenies of which 53 were tropical landrace collections, which were previously selected in the tropical low land area of Mexico, 5 local landraces and 17 improved maize materials, were subjected to 4 cycles of half sib recurrent selection at Nayarit and 2 cycles of half sib and 2 cycles of mass selection at Guerrero. The best 50 progenies (20% selection intensity) were selected for yield and good agronomic characteristics.
