Leaves of gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) supplemented with thidiazuron (TDZ, 0.1-10 micro M) and IAA (0.1-10 micro M). Callus production was highest at 10 micro M IAA, for each TDZ concentration. When these calluses were transferred to MS medium supplemented with 5 or 10 micro M TDZ and 0.0, 0.1, 1, 5, or 10 micro M IAA, the highest number of adventitious shoots (19.9 per callus) formed at 10 micro M TDZ plus 1.0 micro M IAA.
