Cell selection of potato plants resistant to late blight with the use of agents disturbing sterol metabolism



Russian Journal of Plant Physiology 45(2): 240-244



Substances disturbing sterol metabolism in plant cells, namely filipin (a polyene antibiotic) and baytan an inhibitor of sterol biosynthesis, were used as agents for the in vitro selection of potato (Solanum tuberosum) plants resistant to late blight (Phytophthora infestans). The proportion of resistant plants was much higher among regenerants resistant to filipin or baytan than among untreated regenerants.
