Classification of fruit trees - what is the problem? What is important?

Journal of the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science 67(6): 1193-1196

The classification of fruit trees and other cultivated plants has become an active field in agronomy, especially after the development of molecular markers, e.g., isoenzyme, RFLP, RAPD, amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP), etc. However, some researchers do not understand the nature and limitation of these markers and they erroneously infer so-called "genetic distance" or phylogeny from them.
