Comparative studies on chromosome in varieties of Paeonia rockii and Paeonia suffruticosa

Karyotypes and C-banding of 5 varieties of P. rockii and 5 varieties of P. suffruticosa are presented. The karyotypical formula of P. rockii is 2n = 10 = 8m + 2st, and that of P. suffruticosa is 2n = 10 = 6m + 2sm + 2st. There were differences in the number and distribution of C-bands among varieties. Terminal C-bands in the short arms of chromosomes 1 and 3 were observed in P. suffruticosa but not in P. rockii.
