Cutaneous myiasis in small animals

Parasitologia al Dia 21(1/2): 36-39

Two species causing cutaneous myiasis in small animals in Argentina were identified. Cochliomyia hominivorax larvae parasitized 149 dogs and 9 cats, and Phaenicia sericata affected 11 dogs and 10 cats. The lesions were found principally on head, body, genitals, anus, region perineal and tail. 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-instar larvae were collected between 1-7 days post-infection, the number varied from 1 to 250 per hole.
