Daily transport stress and adaptation of calves to short-haul road transport. Effects of rearing conditions on hormonal, metabolic and haematological variables and individual reaction patterns

Daily transport stress and adaptation of calves to short-haul road transport. Effects of rearing conditions on hormonal, metabolic and haematological variables and individual reaction patterns

Landbauforschung Volkenrode 48(2): 65-77

Group reared dairy calves (from one group with changing composition and intensified human contact and from another group with constant composition, minimum service effort and moderate human contact) were exposed daily to uniformly performed road transport. Long lasting recording of heart rate and sampling of saliva and blood before and just after transport were used to assess reaction patterns of calves.
