Does farmer participation make a difference? Selection of sweetpotatoes in the northern Philippine highlands

Sweet potato is the second most important root crop in the northern Philippines, next to potato. 61% of the sweet potatoes produced is for family consumption, while 18, 8 and 3% are sources of animal feed, cash income and planting material, respectively. The majority of highland sweet potato farmers are found in poor rural areas and they form the core of overworked farmers producing crops at a subsistence level.
