Dynamics of shrubby-herbaceous in plants smaller than 5.0 cm DBH at the INPA Tropical Silviculture Experimental Station, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil

Data are reported from a terra-firme equatorial forest near Manaus under 4 thinning intensities; thinning was carried out by canopy tree girdling. Species group behaviour was evaluated on a natural regeneration rate basis, by size class and total amount. The plant functional groups showed a high variability in behaviour. The shrub species did not respond strongly to thinning, while the palm species showed an indifferent response.
