Economic analysis of the Taiwanese national foot-and-mouth disease control programme

A cost benefit analysis was used to evaluate various programmes for control of foot and mouth disease (FMD). The annual cost to Taiwanese economy caused by loss of pig meat export due to FMD was estimated at $43.2 billion. Costs of FMD control programmes were estimated at $16 528 million.
