Effect of N fertilizer application on the grain yield of maize grown in Danube alluvium in a long-term fertilizer experiment

In field trials in 1991, 1994 and 1995 in alluvial Danube soil at Mosonmagyarovar, Hungary, maize was grown after winter wheat or maize and given 50 kg P2O5, 100 kg K2O and 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 or 250 kg N/ha. Averaged across years, grain yield after both preceding crops was highest with 150 kg N (8.0-9.0 t), decreasing at higher N rates.
