Effect of crop residue management, soil tillage and N fertilization on yield and quality of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

The effect of crop residue management, soil tillage and N fertilizer rate on growth, yield and grain quality of wheat was studied. In the absence of N fertilizer, grain yield was significantly decreased when 3000 kg of wheat straw was incorporated (conventional tillage) at sowing. A similar tendency was observed at application rates of 60 kg N ha-1, but not with 120 kg N ha-1. In the absence of straw (crop residues removed), grain yield was increased by soil tillage at all N fertilizer rates.
